About Andreas Papadakis

Born in Athens, Andreas' family has been making olive oil, wine and growing chickens, ducks, rabbits and pigs for five generations. His professional journey commenced at the age of 15, when he started working in a local restaurant in Athens as a kitchen hand. Within a year he was part of the service working alongside the chefs.

As a teen and an adult, Andreas traveled extensively through Italy, where he was struck by the similarity between the sense of community, love of produce and emphasis on elegant yet simple food. "This approach drives my cooking, even now," says Andreas.

In Melbourne for the past twelve years Andreas has been involved with an array of personal and collaborative ventures in consulting, pop-up appearances, art cuisine installations, events and culinary classes.

He spent four years as Senior Chef at Vue de Monde, then created Comida Bebe, his art cuisine and consulting business with Raúl Yagüe and Yossi Klein.

In 2014 Andreas opened Tipo 00 with co-owners Luke Skidmore and Alberto Fava. The venue was an instant hit. Described by several food commentators as "everything that's right with Melbourne hospitality", Tipo 00 has a tight focus on excellent house-made pasta, presented with flair and authenticity. The venue has received numerous accolades including Best New Restaurant 2016 in The Age Good Food Guide.

In 2017 Andreas and Luke opened the sibling restaurant Osteria Ilaria, next door to Tipo 00. The foundations of the menu at Osteria Ilaria are traditionally Italian, but other European dishes also feature and are complemented by a beautifully curated international wine list. Following the success of this opening Andreas was recognised as Chef of the Year and Osteria Ilaria was named Restaurant of the Year in the Time Out Food Awards 2017.
