Dario D'Agostino's 20-year career in the hospitality industry is founded on a strong connection with food and produce which goes back to his childhood days. Born in the Abruzzo Region in Italy with family members also involved in hospitality, food and wine businesses throughout the world, Dario knew from an early age what his career path would be. By the age of 14 Dario was undertaking cooking exams and working in the kitchen training in traditional cuisine.

About Dario D'Agostino

In his early career Dario worked extensively throughout Europe including stints at various Michelin star restaurants in Italy. A position representing the Italian Podere Castorani Winery brought him to Australia where he introduced the wines of former Formula 1 Driver Jarno Trulli to the country.

In 2004 Dario established Gran Sasso Ristorante Italiano in Melbourne, which went on to receive 2nd place in the Barilla Best Italian Restaurant Award issued by the Restaurant & Catering Victoria Association. His passion to represent Italian cuisine then led him to the position as Executive Chef Food and Menu Editor for the Australian owned magazine Italianicious.

Dario has also held a range of industry leadership roles. From 2011-2013, Dario was the youngest ever President of the Victorian branch of the prestigious Les Toques Blanches Australia. He is also a qualified judge for the Australian Culinary Federation and has served as President for the Association of Italian Chefs Australia and board member of the Italian Chamber of Commerce.

In 2013 Dario opened ZaZa's Cucina Italiana, a vibrant, casual eatery in Richmond. During this time Dario founded the management companies Pizza Revolution and Pastry Revolution which assisted talented Australian chefs achieve 1st place in the 2013 World Pizza Championship in Parma, Italy and 1st place in the 2015 Coupe Du Monde de La Patisserie in Lyon, France. Dario is also a Founder and Director of DAMA Partners Consulting, an agency that specialises in a broad range of hospitality consultancy services.

By 2015 Dario decided to step into the evolving Melbourne brunch scene with the opening of Long Story Short café. Serving a deliciously innovative all-day breakfast and lunch menu, with a strong focus on coffee, Long Story Short offers a wide assortment of dishes to cater for all tastes - expect to find decadent Buttermilk Tim Tam Pancakes alongside healthier options and classics with a quirk.

After the tremendous success of the first Long Story Short café in Port Melbourne, Dario and his team recently opened a second café by the same name in Brunswick. In 2017 Long Story Short was named as one of Australia's most Instagrammable brunches by The Age Good Food and Tourism Australia.
