Seasonal Product: Jerusalem Artichokes

Jerusalem-ArtichokesJerusalem Artichokes are a seasonal product now available from Flowerdale Farm through the Glenora Heritage Produce range.

Native to North America, Jerusalem Artichokes are the root of a species of sunflower. The tubers are pale, elongated and uneven, resembling ginger. The white flesh of this vegetable is nutty, sweet and crunchy and is a good source of iron.

Jerusalem artichokes can be cooked in much the same way as potatoes or parsnips and are excellent roasted, sautéed, battered and fried, or puréed to make a delicious soup. They make an interesting addition to stews and Mediterranean dishes, or can be sliced thinly and enjoyed raw in autumn salads.

This season for Jerusalem artichokes is just commencing and is shaping up to be a bumper crop. We anticipate they will be available in 5kg wholesale boxes through until August / December depending upon demand. All Glenora Heritage products are picked to order, so please ensure orders are received to Flowerdale Farm by 8am each Tuesday and Friday.
