Foliette is a product exclusive to Flowerdale Farm that has been inspired by a French fashion for larger, wild-foraged leaves. Sized between a microgreen leaf and a baby leaf, our Foliette is grown hydroponically to ensure a consistently delicate flavour and hand cut so that every leaf is exquisite. Foliette is the Leaf of the moment, ideal when you need a slightly larger leaf to add perfection to your plate.

Red Vein Sorrel FolietteWe have a new and exclusive seed variety for Petite Red Vein Sorrel (Blood Sorrel), which has striking strong red veins. This statement leaf adds stunning complexity to savoury meals. The citrus flavour combines well with eggs and cream or fish. Use individual leaves of Petite Red Vein Sorrel to create a brilliant, flavoursome finish for high end dining. Excellent supply currently available.

Bulls Blood FolietteWe have a fantastic new and exclusive seed variety for Bulls Blood Foliette which is producing an exceptionally dark red leaf.  The sweet, earthy taste of this spectacular leaf has made it an instant favourite among leading chefs.  Excellent supply available so speak to your providore today!

 

Crimson Elk FolietteCrimson Elk, Green Elk & Copper Mizuna Foliette are also in good supply this month. With a sweet mustard flavour, these petite leaves are very adaptable with a wide range of savoury applications. Use to add zest to pasta and seafood or a fresh spicy flavour with perfect presentation to red and white meat dishes.

Oyster Leaf FolietteOyster Leaf is also back in season with excellent supply. With a unique salty oyster-like flavour, Oyster Leaves are an excellent addition to fish and seafood. They can be used as a salt substitute for red meat dishes or to contrast and complement coffee and chocolate flavours. With a large flat, green-grey colour and spoon-like shape, Oyster Leaves have impressive plate presentation.

New Seasonal Product: Romanesco Cauliflower

Romanesco-cauliflowerRomanesco Cauliflower, also known as Romanesco Broccoli, is a new seasonal product available from Flowerdale Farm through the Glenora Heritage Produce range.
Known for its striking appearance, Romanesco Cauliflower is a bright chartreuse green in colour, with a fractal floret shape. These unique fractal florets are comprised of a series of increasingly smaller buds which spiral around in a self-similar pattern. Romanesco Cauliflower has been around since the 16th century in Italy.
Romanesco Cauliflower has a crunchier texture than traditional cauliflower and a more delicate and nutty taste. To make the most of this dramatic vegetable we recommend it is prepared as smaller florets. Blanch florets then plunge them into ice water to lock in the vibrant colour. Then simply add the pre-cooked Romanesco Cauliflower to salads, veggie platters or pastas. Enjoy Romanesco Cauliflower roasted, sautéed in olive oil with onions, or chargrilled. Romanesco is also ideal to pickle with garlic.
Romanesco Cauliflower is available wholesale from Flowerdale Farm by the box in mixed sizes with between 8 to 15 heads in a box. As the season progresses we will grade them according to size. All Glenora products are picked to order so please ensure orders are received to Flowerdale Farm by 8am each Tuesday or Friday.

New Edible Flower Variety: Summer Kisses (Linaria)

LINARIAFlowerdale Farm is excited to introduce three new edible flower varieties this spring: Summer Kisses (Linaria), Carnival Prince (Polyanthus) and Sweet Alyssum.

Linaria will be available mid-September and is a small, vibrantly coloured edible flower with a mild lettuce / melon flavour. This bloom looks like a mini snapdragon and comes in a pretty range of pinks, purples, yellows and reds. Ideal for adding a splash of colour to sweet or savoury dishes.

 

New Edible Flower Variety: Sweet Alyssum

Sweet Alyssum FlowersFlowerdale Farm is excited to introduce three new edible flower varieties this spring: Sweet Alyssum, Carnival Prince (Polyanthus) and Summer Kisses (Linaria).

Sweet Alyssum is a beautiful, delicate cluster of blooms which is currently available in pink, purple and white hues. A member of the Brassica family, it has a slightly sweet and peppery flavour similar to kale. Sweet Alyssum is a great addition to salads and savoury dishes. Already proving to be very popular, Sweet Alyssum will be available year-round.
