The Age Good Food Guide Awards 2015

Vittoria Coffee Legend AwardFlowerdale Farm was honoured to attend The Age Good Food Guide Awards at Melbourne's NGV International on Monday August 25th. The biggest night of the restaurant industry's year, the event celebrated Melbourne's dining scene, bringing together Australia's top chefs and announcing who received the coveted ‘hats’.

It was wonderful to see so many venues that Flowerdale Farm supply receive the recognition they deserve for outstanding quality.

Andrew McConnell was the big winner on the night taking out both the Citi Chef of the Year Award and New Restaurant of the Year for his pan-Asian eatery Supernormal.

The KitchenAid Young Chef of the Year Award was jointly received by Timothy Martin, head chef at The European and Joshua Pelham of Estelle Bar and Kitchen.

Anthony Lui of The Flower Drum received the Vittoria Coffee Legend Award in recognition of his longevity, leadership and ongoing innovation. Lui also had extra cause to celebrate with The Flower Drum retaining its three-hat status. Other restaurants to be awarded three hats were the city-based fine diners Attica and Vue de Monde.

New notable achievements included cool Collingwood eatery St Crispin earning two hats and Crown’s own No. 8 by John Lawson receiving its first hat.

Flowerdale Farm congratulates all the chefs and venues nominated for their outstanding achievements and looks forward to working with them as an integral partner in the supply of premium products and the development of new culinary concepts.

Cut Cress Product Launch

Cut Cress punnetsFlowerdale Farm is proud to announce the launch of ‘Cut Cress’ an innovative new microgreen range addressing the needs of the export market.

Cut Cress are micro herb and vegetable greens harvested during the early vegetative stage, when the very first adult leaf appears. Although delicate in appearance they contain an intense, vibrant, flavour and boast a comparatively high nutrient content.

Fitting twice as many punnets (as compared to living pots) into an AVE chilled air freight container, Cut Cress is an ideal product for interstate and export markets. An added benefit of Cut Cress packaging is its greatly reduced weight. At only 30 grams, it is less than 1/6 of the weight of a traditional living microgreen pot, reducing air freight costs substantially.

Despite this significant reduction in weight, Cut Cress offers twice the product volume of a traditional living microgreen pot. “Flowerdale Farm Cut Cress offers unrivalled value in the microgreen category” says General Manager James Rattray.

“Cut Cress has twice the product volume and is priced lower than purchasing the comparative product. Flowerdale Farm is using this improved efficiency to pass substantial savings onto customers and deliver greater value per serve to the end user”.

Cut Cress, and its patented resealable clam-shell punnets, offer extended shelf life by helping to maintain an ideal temperature and preventing the product from drying out. As the Cut Cress is fully in-cased, this packaging solution protects the delicate product from damage in transit. Cut Cress punnets also stack neatly, improving efficiencies in freight and logistics.

With over 20 flavoursome varieties Cut Cress offers a convenient, ready to use product, perfect for restaurant and foodservice clients. “We believe Cut Cress will be a game changer in the microgreen category”, says Rattray. “Cut Cress is easier to handle than living product and offers premium quality, great value and convenience”.

Chefs Farm Tour

farm-tourFlowerdale Farm recently conducted a tour of our microgreen growing facility for a dozen of Melbourne’s leading chefs.  This unique event gave chefs the opportunity to experience first-hand the microgreen growing process and discover the wide range of flavours and applications for these beautiful products.

Chefs were treated to hot-house and farm tours followed by a gourmet lunch prepared by Lee Chan of My Kitchen Rules.  The delicious 3 course lunch featured Flowerdale Farm specialty products in each dish and was accompanied by regional wines.  Our guests enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and opportunity to speak directly with our growers and staff about new products and culinary concepts.

Flowerdale Farm will be conducting further farm tours for chefs later this year.  To register your interest please email info@flowerdalefarm.com.au with your restaurant name and contact details.
